Severe Weather Response Plan

Hurricane - Earthquake

Earthquakes occur suddenly and without warning. In the event of an earthquake do not attempt to leave the building. You are safer in the building until the initial tremors subside.

When earthquake tremors occur, first and foremost, remain calm. Think Through the consequences of any action you may take. You should take the following action.

  1. If you are inside a building, stay inside. If you are outdoors stay outdoors. During earthquakes, most injuries occur as people are entering or leaving the building.
  2. If you are in an office, seek protection by getting under a desk or similar sturdy furniture.
  3. If you are in an elevator remain calm. The elevator will automatically go to the ground floor and open up for you to exit. After exiting the elevator seek shelter.
  4. If you are in a stairwell, exit the at the nearest floor and seek shelter.
  5. Do not go into a stairwell or try to use the elevators until you are instructed to do so. Remain as close to the floor as possible.
  6. If you are outside, move away from the building and any overhead utility wires. The greatest danger is from falling debris just outside the doorways and close to the outer building walls. Remain in an open area until the shaking stops.
  7. Expect aftershocks to occur and take necessary precautions.
  8. Report damages to Healthpeak Properties/after hours emergency number (502) 429-9851.

Regional Flood

Flood waters contain harmful bacteria and microbes; contact should be avoided. Report any water intrusion to the management office.

Tornado

Tornados often accompany severe thunderstorms and are only one of many severe weather hazards. Others include lightning, strong winds, rain and hail.

Please be aware of the distinction between:

Tornado Watch - Tornados and severe weather are possible

Tornado Warning - Tornado(s) have been detected; TAKE SHELTER IMMEDIATELY

In the event that a tornado is sighted in the area and a local area siren is heard or a weather announcement is sounded through the public broadcasting systems:

  1. Close all doors and windows
  2. Go to interior small rooms or hallways and face the wall
  3. Stay away from windows, doors, and exterior building walls
  4. Protect your head
  5. Remain in hallways or interior areas until the weather has passed
